Jerome Podell Havanique Havanese Unhealthy Dogs
Author: Krise I contacted Jerome Podell to purchase a Havanese puppy for show and breeding. He sold me a dog that is very ill. She has a condition called chondrodysplasia. At the time of sale, he stated she has a bit of a crooked leg, but it should straighten out as she grows. He's been a breeder for many years, so he was aware this condition only worsens. He was well aware of her condition. This is interstate, internet fraud.
I've been told by my vet this condition will only worsen and there's a strong change she'll go lame.
The surgery to avoid her becoming lame will cost me 2300.00. My consultation appointments along with xrays have already cost me over 800.00 with 2 surgeons, both suggesting surgery.
I paid Jerome 2850.00 for this dog. I contacted him and his response was he had no money to pay me for this dog so I couldn't send her back for a refund.
He's offered to refund me while he sells more dogs with a non-disclosure statement, but no contract was sent and no monies refunded. It's been a month since he's stated he would refund me.
I've been in contact with others who have had health issues with puppies bought from Jerome. If you have bought a puppy from Jerome Podell with health issues, please contact me. I'd like to file a law suit.

I bought two dogs from Jerry. Their health is excellent, his support has been excellent. I hope he will make things right. He has been such a guy to me. I would certainly buy another dog from him and I would recommend him to anyone.

Not to mention, I think it is just horrible how you go from speaking to him to the next moment airing your dirty laundry on the net. Shame on you. I am so glad I am not Jerry dealing with the likes of you.

I don't get it? Why would he reimburse you for the dog while you still have the dog and the surgery is not done. I have to remember that next time I want a free dog.

This women is being very unreasonable! I purchashed a beautiful HEALTHY pup from Jerry and would do it again. I think he is a very honest man and would absolutely give him a good referral. He offered her a replacement, she declined. This women CHOSE to keep the dog. Jerry agreed to pay the vet expenses. I think he is being more then fair. She is just trying to destroy his reputation. This women is being a BITCH!!!!

I would just like to say that I know Jerry's dogs. They are the best, not to mention the cutest, and it is unfair to start these rumors about him. He is a respected breeder, and we should look more into this before we judge.

Over the years I have purchased many Havanese from Jerome. He pretty much founded this breed and if you look at any pedigree today you will most likely find his dogs. My dogs have been healthy and now I have a 13 year old from Jerome that is still giving my younger dog a run for her money. I agree with one of the writers boy it sounds like you want a free dog. No one has a crystal ball and you need to get a grip and leave this man who has been so kind and helpful to me & I am sure countless others over the years alone.

Oh and BTW interstate / internet fraud? Get a life. You state he told you about the leg. So you should not have taken the dog if you were worried about it. Gotten your money back right then. FRAUD is when you buy something and do not get it period. You got a dog. GET A LIFE! Nothing is perfect! If you really wanted a dog to show and breed you should have bought one much much older so there would be no doubt! I suggest you never breed though because what goes around comes around. I recall when I first looking for a dog a wise breeder told me that if a breeder says they have never had problems they are lying or have not bred that long. It happens to the best.

you bought the dog knowing of the condition as you admit; you even chose it over its littermate; you're the one who chose to do an "interstate" transaction and you even picked it up in person; you refused a replacement, and you were offered a settlement agremeent which you refused to sign, and it's not clear what the internet has to do with it since you met the guy in person and have talked with him often. You are, in short, making yourself look like a two-faced fool. No breeder is ever going to want to deal with you in the future. Id hush up if I were you.

I would work it out with the breeder. Jerry is a well-known, highly regarded, old-time Havanese breeder. I wouldn't be complaining all over the internet and dragging him into the mud with you. He has worked hard to develop this breed and he tries to breed healthy dogs - like other show breeders. If you got a bad dog, send her back for goodness sakes! Even if it takes him all summer to pay you back, you don't need a puppy that needs surgery. Nobody is forcing you to keep this dog, right? What were your original terms? Do you co-own with Jerry? If you got the dog without a contract then that's your fault - and a big mistake on your part. If he stated from the beginning the dog had a leg issue, it doesn't even sound like fraud to me. Honey, pick yourself out of the muck you put yourself in, work it out with Jerry, and apologize for your internet 'vent against Jerry' extravaganza.

I have been reading the Havanese Forum blog with interest. You have also given people the name of the dog's orthopedist, with the account number and telephone number asking for payment for the surgery. Then, you tell people to pay YOU with Paypal. Then you rage against the breeder for not paying for un-done surgery that even your vet says not to do (according to your blog). You say your dog is in no pain, but you are willing to go against the advice of your vet and subject this poor dog to bone surgery?? Gee, that might be painful. You also mentioned your Chanel purse cost you thousands of dollars and you are willing to sell your Chanel suits to get money because now YOU are "between jobs" as is your hubby. I would say you are not only trying to get a free dog, you are trying to double dip on compensation. I hope the media picks up your story, "Beware of scammers who want free dogs and others to pay their vet bills." It isn't very nice when people - strangers even - rage against you on the internet, is it? Put down your whole name so we know who you are!!! Breeders beware of KRISE!

Founding the breed or not Jerome Podell is a ripoff artist. And airing the dirty laundry on the internet is about all you can do dealing with this guy cuz he takes the money and runs. I know of several, including me he has sold dogs too, they don't dna out and can't be registered. He moves from place to place, had 12 residences in the last ten years and also got his dogs taken away for neglect at one point, but the county let him have them back. He is crooked but puts up a good front and yes, has been in havs for years.

Funny how people are attacking this woman that got ripped off. Hmmmm I'm thinking they are friends of Jerry's. Or they live with him as he doesn't have alot of friends. The women paid almost 3 grand for a show dog and she got an unhealthy pet. There should of at the very least been money refunded. At least 2 grand.
